Robin Baker has attended 70+ births in her six years as a professional birth photographer and doula, so she was definitely well-prepared to document the home birth of twins. Looks like her hard work paid off. The above photo was one of the winners in the International Association of Professional Birth Photographers’ 2016 Image of the Year Competition.
“The parents were calm and peaceful and brought their babies into the world effortlessly,” Baker explained in an email to Cosmopolitan.com. “They had 30 minutes of bonding time with Baby A before Baby B made his way into his fathers hands still en-caul (covered in the amniotic sac). The mom reached down and removed the sac, and Dad turned the baby to release the Nuchal cord and then handed him to Mom. The atmosphere was peaceful and joyous. It was truly one of the most incredible moments of my career!”
There’s even more where the award-winning photo came from. Here are several other pretty amazing shots from the birth.
