Leopards are known as the strongest cats in Africa, as well as the most elusive. They are often one of the popular animals, visitors want to see most when going on safari – be it international guests or locals.

A pretty mind blowing and surreal encounter of David McLerran and Gabriel Lawrance Keet at Inyati Game Lodge whilst we were filming “The Year the Earth Changed” for AppleTV.”

One can not deny their raw majesty and beauty and it is always such a pleasure observing them in the wild. But these photographers truly got lucky when this leopard strolled right past them. Leopards are classified as one of the Big 5 in Africa.

The Big 5 however, are not the biggest 5 animals in Africa. The elephant, lion, buffalo, rhino and leopard are the 5 most dangerous animals to encounter on foot in Africa. The leopard especially, due to its camouflage and speed, reaching an average of 58 km/h. When charging, they can cover 23 meters in one second.

This really must have been an absolute unbelievable moment to be a part of. It just truly goes to show, when we respect animals – they respect us.
