She was thin, suffered from a high fever and had a skin infection on her haunches and tail. It was a stressful process preparing her for surgery, knowing that each day that passed increased the risk of her brain rupturing.
However, it is important to take the time to see the relevant veterinary specialists and complete all the testing and pre-surgical care you needed. The doctors also had to increase his weight so that he could withstand the anesthesia.
All of these attempts were aimed at increasing his chances of surviving a surgery that would likely require extensive blood loss and also had a higher-than-usual risk of death. And it worked!
On December 8, Nina underwent major surgery and came out with flying colors.
When she recovered enough from surgery, she went to one of Wright-Way’s excellent medical foster families, where she has been thriving!
Post-surgical biopsy findings indicated that the smaller tumors were benign and, as expected, the largest was a soft tissue sarcoma.
All indicators point to a healthy recovery and she will soon be ready to find her forever home. Finally, Nina has a loving family where they care for her and adore her.
Odysseus was so emaciated when he was found that even the most experienced rescuers cry over his story. The 2-year-old puppy was discovered abandoned outside a Georgia church: tied up, sickly but still clinging to life.
Rescuers suspect Odysseus could be a boxer mix, but he is so underweight that they can’t be sure. He weighed just 28 pounds when they found him and all of his ribs were clearly visible through his skin.
Local group Angels Among Us Pet гeѕсᴜe stepped in to care for Odysseus and rushed him to emergency veterinary care. On Sunday night, the rescue told their story in an emotional Facebook post.
“I’m writing this with tears streaming down my cheeks… He’s an absolute skeleton… This boy needs rescue and emergency veterinary care and he needs it right away!”
“It will take a while to determine his personality,” Anne Clark of Angels Among Us Pet гeѕсᴜe told The Dodo. “But I understand that she is very sweet.”
Over the weekend, the rescue team began searching for a foster home where Odysseus could begin to recover from his years of hunger and abuse.
“We also urgently need a foster home to help Odysseus rehabilitate,” the organization posted on Facebook. “Would you open your home and your heart to help him?”
Their cries were answered. Although he is not yet ready to go to a home, Odysseus has already found a foster father. “She has been on the edge of her seat all night waiting for information and she is scheduled to visit him early tomorrow morning,” the rescue posted on Facebook. “She is her angel!!!”
There are still no clues as to who starved Odysseus, but his rescuers are now looking to the future, focused on how to give this young dog a chance at a healthy, happy life.
