Lucy Clemenger Architects has designed the renovation and extension of an 1890s heritage Federation house in Melbourne, Australia.
The exterior of the new rear extension includes a blackbutt facade, and instead of it being left with a natural finish, an ice white finish was applied that references the seaside locale.
The new facade overhangs the green plunge pool below. The timber shroud has been carefully designed to prevent overlooking the neighboring properties and provides a large picture window into the adjacent park.

Throughout the home, there are materials that include terracotta tiles, timber lining boards, pale oak floors and joinery, deep sea green tiles, and soft Carrara marble.
The new open-plan kitchen, living, and dining space seamlessly connect with an outdoor deck and plunge pool via integrated sliding doors.
A home bar is hidden behind a closet in the living room and includes a small fridge, bottle storage, and shelving for displaying glassware.
Elements of the original home have been kept, with one room being decorated in various shades of blue.
Another room has been turned into an office for the homeowner.
A new addition to the home was a large walk-in closet off the master suite, that provides plenty of storage for the home owner’s extensive fashion collection.
In one of the bathrooms, a dark green vanity contrasts the light gray square wall tiles and white basin.
